How To Apply For A Marriage License In Arizona

As a result of the coronavirus health emergency, the Clerk of the Superior Court for Maricopa County has made it possible to apply for a marriage license online. This reduces the need to come into the office in support of the CDC recommendation for social distancing.NOTE: This service is provided for Arizona residents ONLY.

You will need:

  1. Valid identification for both applicants
  2. Fully supported browsers for forms include the following major browsers. For the best experience with these forms, one of the following browsers is recommended:
    1. Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
    2. Microsoft Edge (EdgeHTML 16 and greater)
    3. Google Chrome 64 and greater
    4. Mozilla Firefox 59 and greater
    5. Apple Safari 10.1/11.0/11.1 and greater

How to Submit Application

Please read the instructions thoroughly before proceeding to the 'Apply Online' button below, or your application may be delayed. You may contact us at cocmlp@cosc.maricopa.gov or 602-372-5375, Option 5 if you have any questions.

  • NOTE: If you plan on getting married within the next 30 days, we cannot guarantee issuance and delivery of the license in time for the ceremony. It would be in your best interest to make an appointment online and come into one of our locations to be issued the license the same day.
  • NOTE: You will need one of the following fully supported browsers in order to use this process and complete the forms: Microsoft Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge (EdgeHTML 16 and greater), Google Chrome 64 and greater, Mozilla Firefox 59 and greater, or Apple Safari 10.1/11.0/11.1 and greater.
  • Use the following instructions to complete the application and affidavit. NOTE: If all requested information is not provided on the application, you will not be able to submit your request online. You will need to either resubmit a fully completed application and copies of the front of your valid government photo IDs that contain a signature or make an appointment online to be issued the license in the Office.
    • Make photocopies of the front of your valid government photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.) and save them to your computer desktop. The ID must have a signature and match the signature on the affidavit; and, at least one of the valid government photo IDs must show proof of current Arizona residency.
    • Complete the online marriage license application form and then click on 'Submit' at the bottom of the application; names on the application must match exactly the IDs used to obtain the license.
    • Your application and ID's have been submitted at this point and you may close the window.
    • You will receive an email from donotreply@coc.maricopa.gov to download the affidavit; only one affidavit signed by both applicants is needed
      • Print the affidavit
      • both applicants are to sign the affidavit with an original hand signature,
      • "save" it to your desktop and access the email you received and then "upload the signed affidavit."
      • Click and drag the file to upload.
      • You may close the window at this time.
      • You will receive an email from donotreply@coc.maricopa.gov that your affidavit was received and you will soon be contacted by phone to obtain payment
  • Your application will be reviewed by staff and if accepted you will receive a phone call from staff within 5 business days, between normal business hours (8AM to 5PM, Mon thru Fri), at the phone number you listed on the application. NOTE: The call will be coming from a restricted phone number.
    • You will need to confirm social security numbers and dates of birth for both applicants.
    • You will need to make payment for the marriage license with a Visa, MasterCard or American Express card.
    • If there is a problem with the application or ID's that you submitted your application will be rejected with an explanation as to why. You will need to start over and resubmit a new application, ID's and affidavit.
  • Fees are $83.00 for the marriage license, $7 for postage and handling, and an additional $37.50 if you want to prepay for a certified copy of the license to be mailed back to you after the license is recorded.
  • After receiving payment, the license will be processed and mailed to the Arizona address within two business days via USPS First Class mail. A copy of your receipt will be included.
